Since its publication in 1993, the "New Japanese Course" (Volumes 1-4) published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press has been widely acclaimed and adopted as the main textbook for Japanese language programs in many higher education institutions. It has also been favored by learners of various types. To meet the urgent needs of learners, the publisher has successively released supplementary materials such as the "Exercises for New Japanese Course" and the "Study Reference for New Japanese Course," providing valuable assistance to learners. However, the "New Japanese Course" (Volumes 1-4) is designed as a textbook for Japanese language programs in higher education institutions, with a high level of difficulty and stringent requirements. It is only through careful instruction and guidance from teachers that students can effectively master it. As a result, learners outside the Japanese language programs in higher education institutions find it particularly challenging to use this textbook. At the same time, Japanese language majors also encounter many difficulties in their studies due to various subjective and objective reasons, urgently needing a guidebook that can help them learn the "New Japanese Course" and overcome these challenges, thereby improving their learning efficiency.
We have been using the "New Japanese Course" (Volumes 1-4) in our Japanese language program for over a decade, making us quite familiar with this textbook and well-aware of the common problems students face during their studies. Based on our teaching experience and practices over the years, we have compiled this series of supplementary guides and exercise solutions titled "Synchronous Guidance and In-depth Solutions for New Japanese Course" (a total of four volumes, one for each volume of the textbook). The purpose of this series is not only to provide learners with a guidebook that can help them understand and solve difficulties but also to serve as a platform for discussion and exchange among fellow educators. Therefore, this book can serve as an ideal guide for learners using the "New Japanese Course" as their textbook, as well as a valuable reference for instructors teaching this material.
Considering that Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press has already published exercise books and text translations, the focus of this series is on supplementary explanations of vocabulary, grammar, and texts. At the end of each volume, several sets of comprehensive test papers are included to facilitate self-assessment for learners.
