Varicocele: What foods to avoid

Patient's question:

I just returned from the military this year. It's possible that I got varicocele from standing guard during my service. My family has introduced me to a partner and I want to get married and have children as soon as possible. However, my condition hasn't been fully treated yet, and I'm very troubled. Could you please tell me what foods to avoid with varicocele?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is caused by obstruction of the spermatic vein or failure of the valves, leading to blood stagnation, expansion, and tortuosity of the pampiniform plexus of the spermatic vein. It is more common in young and middle-aged adults. The incidence of left varicocele is higher. Those with asymptomatic or mild symptoms can wear elastic pants or use a scrotal support. Men with severe symptoms and infertility due to varicocele accompanied by abnormal sperm should undergo surgical treatment. The surgical procedure involves high ligation of the spermatic vein. It is recommended to identify the underlying cause and treat varicocele targetingly. Varicocele can be cured, but the treatment period is generally long, and recurrence is prone after treatment. Therefore, active cooperation with the doctor, appropriate medication, and avoiding prolonged sitting or riding are essential. Patients should pay attention to personal hygiene. We hope male patients can recover quickly!
