Introduction to Insurance

Author: Cao Xueqin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2000-07-01
Features: Referencing the mature and standardized textbook systems of insurance studies in developed countries, and combining with the actual development of insurance theory in China, this book arranges its structure as follows:
Chapter 1: Introduction
Starting from the principles of modern insurance, it analyzes the nature, functions of insurance, and the necessary conditions for commercial insurable risks.
Chapter 2
Firstly, it provides a macro-level overview of the basic structure of the insurance market and the development status of the insurance industry. Then, from a micro perspective, it summarizes the organizational composition, operational content, and business processes of insurance enterprises, and offers a general introduction to the premium principle.
Chapter 3
Mainly based on China's insurance legislation, it explains the basic concepts, principles, and constituent elements of insurance contracts.
The content of Chapters 1 to 3 is comprehensive, basically covering the fundamental principles of insurance. From Chapter 4 to Chapter 9, the book introduces the main categories of insurance in the insurance operation in the usual classification order. Among them:
Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 mainly introduce the general principles and main types of property insurance.
Chapter 6 focuses on explaining the basic principles of life insurance.
Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 analyze health group insurance and life annuities, as well as retirement funds, which have broad development prospects.
In this textbook, the author has made considerable efforts in the following aspects:
First, the system structure has been innovated, striving to break through the traditional format that has long dominated in China and align more closely with international related textbooks.
Second, it strives to reflect the latest developments and innovative content of the international insurance industry, making the entire book content highly reference-worthy.
Third, it emphasizes the use of an easy-to-understand approach, explaining complex and profound insurance issues through specific cases.
Fourth, it closely connects with the actual development of China's insurance industry, focusing on cultivating readers' ability to analyze practical phenomena through theoretical learning.
This book devotes more space to analyzing content that is generally less covered in similar textbooks. Some of this content, such as an in-depth analysis of traditional insurable risk conditions, an evaluation of market organizational innovation, and employee benefit plans, health group insurance, life annuities, and insured retirement funds, has a pioneering nature. These are the crystallizations of my long-term research.
Given the above characteristics, this book is not only suitable for teaching general insurance studies in various fields but also has a certain enlightening effect on a broad range of insurance professionals and theoretical researchers.
I believe that a mature teaching textbook needs to be rigorously tested by readers and continuously refined and polished. Therefore, I hope that this book before you can deliver the expected benefits to readers, while also looking forward to receiving corrections from you.
