Patient's question:
I've been feeling uncomfortable down there for this period of time. It's both painful and itchy, and my glans seems particularly red and slightly swollen. The odor is especially unpleasant, and there are yellowish secretions from my glans. Is this likely glans inflammation? Please ask: How long does it take to recover from glans inflammation?Doctor's answer:
Hello; The treatment for balanitis should be targeted at the cause of inflammation, so it varies from person to person. The basic principle of Western medicine treatment is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It is generally a combination of internal and external treatment. For acute superficial balanitis and annular purulent balanitis, erythromycin and tetracycline are the first-line treatments. Typically, 0.5g is taken four times a day. For trichomoniasis balanitis, metronidazole is the first-line treatment, taken at 0.2g three times a day, alternating for 10 days. For balanitis caused by Candida albicans, it is commonly treated with griseofulvin or itraconazole. Griseofulvin at 100,000 to 200,000 units twice a day, and itraconazole at 100mg twice a day, for 7 days. Balanitis tends to recur, requiring long-term medication.
