Patient's question:
Hello! I noticed patches on my glans with different colors, and there's a white substance around the edge of the glans that won't wash off. Is this condition caused by balanitis? If it is balanitis, could you please recommend a good hospital for this?Doctor's answer:
Red spots on the glans are a typical symptom of balanoposthitis, which refers to inflammation of the inner foreskin and glans. A lipid substance normally secreted in the foreskin cavity can accumulate as smegma in cases of phimosis or excessive foreskin, irritating the foreskin and glans and leading to balanoposthitis. The basic principle of Western medical treatment is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It usually involves both topical and systemic treatment. For acute superficial balanoposthitis and annular purulent balanoposthitis, erythromycin and tetracycline are the drugs of choice. For trichomoniasis-induced balanoposthitis, metronidazole is the drug of choice. For Candida-induced balanoposthitis, itraconazole or griseofulvin is commonly used. For patients with balanoposthitis, timely treatment can reduce recurrence. If left untreated, it may affect fertility.
