What are the symptoms of epididymitis?

Patient's question:

Ultrasound examination, the doctor said the test results showed epididymitis. Please ask what are the symptoms of epididymitis, thank you

Doctor's answer:

Epididymitis primarily presents with a sense of heaviness, fullness, and discomfort in the affected scrotum. The pain can radiate to the lower abdomen and the ipsilateral inguinal region. The affected epididymis becomes enlarged, hard, and may develop lumps with mild tenderness. The ipsilateral ureter may also appear dilated. During acute recurrence, epididymitis is accompanied by systemic discomfort, fever, pronounced local tenderness, and a continuous increase in white blood cell count.
The epididymis is the site where sperm mature and are stored. Inflammation of the epididymis can impair its function, disrupt the internal environment, and consequently affect sperm maturation and their long-distance mobility. This can lead to infertility.
