Features: I love reading. Books are the source of knowledge. Books have increased my knowledge, and they have taught me many things.
When I was very young, every night, my mother would hold a storybook and read to me. After I started school, I learned many characters and learned how to use a dictionary, so I began to read by myself. When I came across unfamiliar words, I would look them up in the dictionary, and when I encountered problems I couldn’t understand, I would ask others for help. My reading range has become broader, from fairy tales and picture books in my childhood to textbooks, historical books, and so on. Whenever my father or mother brought back books, I would dive into them like a starving person.
When reading, I often felt deeply for the fate of the protagonists in the books. Sometimes I would laugh uncontrollably as if I were sick, and at other times, I would shed many sympathetic tears. I remember one afternoon in the third grade of elementary school. My mother was cooking in the kitchen, and I was reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms. When I came to the scene where Zhuge Liang died of blood loss, my nose stung, and my eyes blurred. After a while, I couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into tears, tears rolling down like pearls from a broken string. I was so sad about the death of such a great military strategist, statesman, and writer. At that moment, my mother came running, thinking I was hungry. She quickly said, "Good child, don’t cry. Mom will cook right away. Are you hungry? Let’s have some biscuits first."
"No, I want Zhuge Liang to live!" Mom looked at me, shaking her head helplessly.
Later, I thought it was quite funny!
There was another time when I heard that the book Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea was very exciting, so I persuaded my mother to buy it for me. However, I couldn’t find it in any of the nearby bookstores, so I went to other bookstores farther from home. And so, almost every bookstore left footprints of both me and my mother until we finally found the book in a small bookstore.
Now, I have read hundreds of books, such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, Dream of the Red Chamber, Journey to the West, and A Thousand Years of History. I have greedily absorbed the boundless nourishment from the books like a sponge soaking up water. Books have not only enriched my spare time but also cultivated my temperament and increased my knowledge. I love reading.
