Got a small scratch on the skin from a rabbit bite, do I need a shot?

Patient's question:

A 1.5-year-old baby played with a rabbit at night, and then noticed a little redness and some broken skin under the baby's eyes. It's not clear if the rabbit caused it. After about 3 hours, the redness went away, and the injury wasn't noticeable unless you looked closely. I want to ask, what should I do if it was indeed the rabbit's fault?

Doctor's answer:

If you are bitten or scratched by a rabbit and the skin is damaged, the damaged skin cannot provide protection, so it is recommended to get vaccinated for peace of mind. Rinse the wound with soap and water, then disinfect it with alcohol or iodine. Although rabbits do not go outdoors and are not animals carrying rabies virus, bites and scratches are generally not a major issue, but damaged skin cannot provide protection, so it is still recommended to get the rabies vaccine.
