How to treat and improve after having epididymitis?

Patient's question:

For a while now, my testicles have been slightly swollen with a dull ache. Recently, they've started to hurt, especially when touched, and it's particularly intense. It seems like the other side is also slightly swollen. I'm very worried. Could you please tell me: How is it treated and improved after experiencing epididymitis?

Doctor's answer:

Epididymitis is a common disease among young and middle-aged adults. Whenever the body's resistance is low, pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus take the opportunity to enter the vas deferens and infiltrate the epididymis, causing inflammation. Therefore, this condition often follows secondary urethritis, prostatitis, and seminal vesiculitis. If the inflammatory mass in the epididymis decreases, the scrotal skin becomes red and swollen with a sense of vibration, forming an abscess, drainage surgery is necessary. In cases where the condition is caused by indwelling catheters, the catheter should be removed. Additionally, during the acute phase, sexual impulses and heavy physical exercise should be avoided to prevent the spread of infection and alleviate symptoms. For a very small number of stubborn patients with poor condition control, orchiectomy, including testicular removal, may be performed.
