What precautions should be taken when treating epididymitis?

Patient's question:

Last night while taking a shower, I noticed my testicles felt a bit swollen. I woke up earlier and seemed to have a fever, which got worse in the afternoon. I went to the hospital for a check-up and was told I have orchitis. I'm really very worried. Could you please tell me what precautions should be taken during the treatment of epididymitis?

Doctor's answer:

Orchitis is usually caused by bacteria and viruses. Orchitis rarely occurs again in the testicles because they have a rich blood and lymphatic supply, making them highly resistant to bacterial infections. Most bacterial orchitis is caused by inflammation of the adjacent epididymis, so it is also called epididymo-orchitis.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) generally adopts a syndrome differentiation approach to treat acute orchitis. Male urologists explain that TCM syndrome differentiation typically classifies acute orchitis into three types:
1. Acute orchitis with damp-heat accumulation (): Symptoms include fever and chills, testicular swelling and pain, hard texture, dark red and (damp) urine, dry stools, a red tongue with yellow greasy coating, and a wiry, slippery, and rapid pulse.
