Patient's question:
When I was taking a shower, I noticed that one of my testicles is larger than the other, and it seems to be lower on one side. When I touched it, I felt that the veins were particularly prominent, almost like earthworms coiled inside the testicle. Please ask: What should I do if I have varicocele?Doctor's answer:
Varicocele refers to the abnormal dilatation and tortuosity of veins in the spermatic cord due to impaired venous. Patients with varicocele may be completely asymptomatic and only detected during physical examination. The affected scrotum or testis may experience a sensation of fullness or, with swelling of the scrotum. When standing, the affected scrotum and testis are higher than the healthy side, and the surface of the scrotum shows dilated and tortuous veins. A soft, worm-like mass can be palpated, and symptoms may be reduced or disappear when lying down. Patients may also experience neurotic symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, and hyperesthesia. Some patients may have sexual dysfunction. Varicocele can sometimes interfere with fertility. The left spermatic vein is longer and enters the renal vein at a right angle, encountering certain resistance to blood flow.
