How to treat and improve epididymitis?

Patient's question:

For a while now, my testicles have been slightly swollen and aching. Recently, they started to hurt, especially when touched, and the other side seems to be slightly swollen as well. I'm very worried. Could you please tell me: How is epididymitis treated and improved?

Doctor's answer:

Epididymitis is a common disease among young and middle-aged adults. Whenever the body's resistance is low, pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus take the opportunity to enter the vas deferens in reverse and the epididymis, causing inflammation. Therefore, this condition often follows secondary urethritis, prostatitis, and seminal vesiculitis. If the inflammatory mass in the epididymis decreases, the scrotal skin becomes red and swollen with a sense of vibration, forming an abscess, drainage surgery is necessary. If the condition is caused by indwelling catheters, the catheter should be removed. Additionally, during the acute phase, sexual impulses and heavy physical exercise should be avoided to prevent the spread of infection and alleviate symptoms. For a very small number of stubborn patients with poor condition control, surgical removal of the epididymis, even including the testis, may be performed.
