Patient's question:
My child is over two years old now. Currently, they only know how to say simple words like "" (Dad) and "" (Mom). Their attention is not focused, and when they want something, they just point instead of speaking. They also don't listen to adults. We're very worried, fearing they might have some form of developmental delay. What are the symptoms of developmental delay in children?Doctor's answer:
The manifestations of intellectual disability include: At 1 month of age, the eyes cannot follow a red ball or moving people, and there is no response to sounds. At 3 months of age, the eyes still cannot follow people, there is no ability to laugh out loud, and the child does not smile actively upon seeing others. At 4 months of age, the child cannot recognize family members. At 6 months of age, the child does not respond to their own name. At 7 months of age, the child cannot recognize strangers and does not unconsciously utter "da-da" or "ma-ma." The hands cannot actively grasp objects. At 9 months of age, the child cannot imitate sounds, cannot express greetings or farewells, and cannot pinch small pills with both hands. At 10 months of age, the child shows no gestures or eye contact toward common objects or people. At 1 year of age, the child does not cooperate during dressing and does not intentionally call parents or others.
