Do all newborns have hernias?

Patient's question:

The child has just arrived in the world. Recently, I've noticed that whenever he cries, there's a coin-sized lump that appears in his right inguinal area. Experts say the child has a hernia. I'd like to ask if all newborn babies have hernias?

Doctor's answer:

Infantile hernia is a relatively common congenital disease. Usually, a diet containing fiber is needed to prevent constipation. Conservative treatment for children under one year old typically involves the use of a hernia ring, but it is not completely effective. Surgical treatment is generally recommended for children over one year old. Infantile hernia can be surgically repaired. Occasionally, recurrence may occur after surgery. If a child is crying and the hernia cannot be retracted, it may indicate the possibility of an inguinal hernia. Immediate emergency care should be sought. Not all children have hernias.
