Is it normal for a child's hernia to come down once a day?

Patient's question:

My little baby developed intestinal gas about a month after birth. Now she is 14 months old. Each time it comes down, it's as big as an egg. It happens once a day. So, I want to ask if it's normal for a baby to have intestinal gas once a day?

Doctor's answer:

Pediatric hernia is a relatively common congenital disease. Usually, a diet containing fiber is needed to prevent constipation. Conservative treatment for children under 1 year old typically involves the hernia ring, but it is not completely effective. Surgical treatment is recommended for children over 1 year old. Pediatric hernia can be surgically repaired. Occasionally, recurrence may occur after surgery. If the child cries excessively and the hernia cannot be retracted, it may indicate an impending strangulated hernia. Immediate emergency care should be sought. It falls down too often every day.
