How can epididymitis be treated?

Patient's question:

I used to have epididymitis, which manifests as testicular pain, a heavy and distended sensation, and sometimes a lack of energy, feeling tired. How can epididymitis be treated?

Doctor's answer:

1. Treatment of Acute Epididymitis: Acute epididymitis should be treated with appropriate rest, antibiotics, and general analgesics. Cold compresses, physical therapy, and the use of scrotal supports can be applied. If an abscess forms, it may require drainage. The underlying cause should be actively addressed.
Treatment of Chronic Epididymitis: Chronic epididymitis is often associated with chronic prostatitis. The general treatment measures are similar to those for chronic prostatitis. Treating prostatitis can help alleviate symptoms of chronic epididymitis. After epididymitis scars form, residual epididymal hardening may cause psychological distress to the patient. Surgical removal of the epididymis does not always relieve symptoms, so orchectomy is generally not performed.
