Will a hernia cause death?

Patient's question:

The doll, while playing by herself a day ago, suddenly started crying violently, shouting that her lower abdomen hurts. We took her to a hospital for a check-up, wanting to consult if it could be intestinal gas and if it could be fatal.

Doctor's answer:

Usually not life-threatening. However, if observed for a long time, repeated protrusion may cause the intestine or omentum to adhere to the hernia ring, leading to incarceration or strangulated hernia, and phenomena such as intestinal necrosis. Therefore, it is still recommended to perform initial surgery for small intestinal gas in children over 2 years old. Small intestinal gas may develop into a stuck state, and if not treated in time, it may be life-threatening. Drink more water, rest more, and eat less spicy, stimulating, and greasy food.
