Features: The revision of Histology and Embryology (6th Edition) was carried out under the leadership of the National Higher Medical Education Textbook Construction Research Association. The purpose of the revision was to make this textbook adapt to the current educational trends in China and the new developments in this discipline. The 5th edition of the book was well-received by teachers and students for its practical, concise, vivid, and self-study-friendly features, and the 6th edition continues to strive for these qualities. In terms of content selection, it highlights knowledge that is most useful for students in their subsequent courses (mainly physiology, pathology, and obstetrics) and future clinical work.
Histology is a highly practical discipline, and laboratory sessions play a significant role in teaching, with their main content being the observation of tissue sections. Therefore, this book attempts to include a "Specimen Observation Guide" (containing 85 specimens) and over a hundred color light microscopic photographs, allowing students to use this book for both theoretical and practical courses. This makes the book more practical, user-friendly, and cost-effective. Other aspects of the laboratory sessions (such as observing special staining slides, electron microscope images, teaching videos, and models) should be set up by each school according to its teaching resources.
During this revision, the insert boxes from the 5th edition have been retained, modified, and updated. The content of the insert boxes includes famous experiments, relatively recent research findings, clinical-related issues, and unresolved challenges. The depth of the content is designed to be understandable for first-year students, with a focus on vivid descriptions. The purpose of the insert boxes is to spark interest in reading, inspire critical thinking, expand knowledge, and give the textbook a humanistic touch. Additionally, the 6th edition features several famous artworks related to the book's content to enhance its humanistic atmosphere and appeal to young students.
The 6th edition is the first to be printed on art paper, with all text and images integrated in a double-column layout. This not only improves the printing quality of the images in the textbook but also enhances students' learning efficiency.
