This book is the first monograph in China to examine the relationship between Chinese literature and music. It was published by the Commercial Press in 1935 and translated into Japanese by the Japanese scholar Yokori Ichikawa in 1936 and published in Japan. Later, there were the lead-type edition by Peking University Press in 1989, the photolithographic edition by Shanghai Bookstore in the same year as part of the "Republic Series," and the edition by Fujian Education Press as part of the "Collected Works of Zhu Qianzhi" in 2002. This publication is based on the "Collected Works of Zhu Qianzhi" edition and references other versions to correct some text. During the compilation process, we received great assistance from Mr. Huang Xinchuan of the Institute of the Asia-Pacific at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Mr. Huang Xiannian of the Institute of World Religions at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
