Is infant vomiting severe?

Patient's question:

Hello, my daughter is 4 months old and still spits up a lot. Sometimes, even an hour after feeding, she wakes up and spits up milk in a big spray (spitting milk in large gulps). Additionally, she often makes expressions of nausea and disgust when taking calcium acetate, as she doesn't like it.

Doctor's answer:

A 4-month-old infant with recurrent vomiting, with eczema. Parents, if the baby is vomiting heavily, it is recommended to visit the hospital for an esophagogastric ultrasound. Some small infants may experience spitting up, which is related to the infant's stomach being in a near horizontal position and the immaturity of the lower esophageal sphincter. However, if excessive vomiting affects growth and development, active examination should be conducted to check for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, and surgical treatment may be necessary if required. Infant eczema may indicate a possible allergic constitution. First, it is recommended not to add yellow yolk too early and to wait until the baby is 7-8 months old. Hydrocortisone butyrate cream can be applied externally. If the eczema is severe, a visit to a dermatologist is recommended. Practice bottle feeding.
