Features: In recent years, with the rapid development of cell biology and genetics, many medical schools have established independent courses such as Cell Biology, Medical Genetics, Ecology, and Experimental Kinesiology. However, these courses cannot replace the traditional Medical Biology. On one hand, they introduce the relationship and applications between modern biological science and medicine from different perspectives and cannot encompass all the content of Medical Biology. On the other hand, medical students need a more macro understanding of systematic biological knowledge. Medical Biology systematically introduces fundamental theories, basic knowledge, and recent research progress in biology and its relationship with medicine, providing a macro-level overview to train students' comprehensive abilities and lay the foundation for studying medical science. The 6th edition of the textbook is divided into 16 chapters: Chapters 1–5 introduce the general principles of life processes, Chapters 6–9 discuss the diversity of organisms and their relationship with the environment, and Chapters 10–16 focus on modern biological advancements and the research of medical theory and practice. Compared to the 5th edition, the content still emphasizes the general principles of biology while highlighting the relationship between biology and medicine, supplemented by recent developments in life sciences. First, the significant progress achieved by the Human Genome Project has had a profound impact on the development of life sciences, especially medicine. Second, a new chapter on Stem Cell Medicine has been added, which is of great significance in medical theory and practice. Third, the nature of diseases and their biological mechanisms are discussed from the perspective of modern life sciences.
