How to treat epididymitis to recover quickly

Patient's question:

I had a cold recently, so I thought the fever and chills were just due to the cold. But the fever didn't go down, and I suspect I might have epididymitis. I don't know how I got this disease, but how can epididymitis be treated quickly?

Doctor's answer:

(1) General treatment involves resting in bed, using a scrotal support or a specially designed soft pad to hold the scrotum, which can alleviate symptoms. For severe pain, pain relievers can be used. Local heat therapy can relieve symptoms and promote inflammation resolution. However, early use of heat therapy may relieve pain but also risks spreading the infection. Therefore, early use of ice packs for local cold compressions is recommended. Sexual activity and physical labor can exacerbate the infection, so they should be avoided.
(2) Antibacterial drugs should be selected based on the sensitivity of the bacteria. Typically, intravenous administration is used for 1–2 weeks, followed by oral antibiotics for 2–4 weeks, to prevent the condition from becoming chronic inflammation.
