Varicocele: What to Avoid

Patient's question:

When I was taking a shower, I noticed that one of my testicles is larger than the other, and it seems to be lower on one side. When I touched it, I felt that the veins were very prominent, almost like earthworms coiled inside the testicle. Please ask: what should be avoided with varicocele?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele, due to blood stasis in the spermatic veins, can lead to an increase in scrotal temperature, causing the testicular temperature to drop by 1℃ to 2℃. Persistent long-term temperature elevation can interfere with sperm production in the testes, resulting in azoospermia and oligozoospermia. The epididymis also plays a role in promoting sperm maturation. It is more common in young and middle-aged adults. The incidence of left varicocele is higher. Individuals with asymptomatic or mild symptoms can wear elastic pants or use a scrotal support band. For those with more severe symptoms and male infertility associated with varicocele and abnormal sperm, surgical treatment should be considered. The surgical procedure involves high ligation of the spermatic veins. I'm not sure about your specific condition, but I recommend you come to our Maternal and Child Plastic Surgery Department for a follow-up visit.
