What are the symptoms of balanitis?

Patient's question:

I have some whitehead-like particles on my glans, and it's very red and wrinkled. Lately, when I urinate, there's always white discharge coming out, and it's itchy. I went to see a doctor and they said it's balanitis. Please ask: What are the symptoms of balanitis?

Doctor's answer:

Different types of balanitis have different symptoms.
1. Trichomoniasis balanitis: The glans will develop many red papules and plaques, gradually expanding with clear margins. Tiny vesicles the size of needles can be seen on the red plaques, and severe cases may lead to the formation of erosions.
2. Acute superficial balanitis: Initially, the affected area becomes flushed, with redness and swelling of the skin. A burning and itchy sensation is felt on the glans. When the foreskin is retracted, congestion and edema can be observed on the inner surface of the foreskin and glans, with exudate and even broken skin.
3. Circumferential purulent balanitis: In this case, some red plaques can be seen on the glans and foreskin, gradually expanding into a ring shape. Severe cases may lead to superficial ulcers.
