Is it normal for a newborn with high jaundice to stop breastfeeding and have green stools?

Patient's question:

My baby has been exclusively breastfeeding, occasionally supplemented with Enfamil A+ infant formula. The baby's face has been yellow, and the sclera is also slightly yellow. Two days ago, I had a check-up, and the bilirubin level measured by transcutaneous bilirubin test was 187.../L. The doctor said it was high, so we stopped breastfeeding for the past two days.

Doctor's answer:

Your child's jaundice level is high. For newborns with high jaundice, their stool color is yellow. Physiological jaundice is usually light yellow and limited to the face and neck, and it disappears after 2 to 3 days, with the skin color returning to normal by the 5th to 6th day. Severe jaundice can last for more than a week, especially for some premature infants, it can persist for up to 4 weeks. Their stool remains yellow, so it is recommended to recheck your child's jaundice level.
