General Linguistics Overview - (Second Edition)

Author: Wu Tieping (Editor-in-Chief)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: This book is a textbook for the undergraduate course "Introduction to Linguistics" in Chinese language programs at universities. It was first published in 1993 and has been adopted by many higher education institutions over the past decade, as well as serving as a reference book for graduate admissions at many universities. The book is divided into nine chapters: Language and Linguistics, The Structure and Mechanism of Language, Phonetics, Grammar, Semantics, Language Variation, Language Use, Language Change, and Writing Systems. In this revision, the basic framework remains unchanged, but new materials and perspectives have been added. For example, in the second section of Chapter 9, the terms "pictographic writing" and "ideographic writing" have been replaced with "pictographic recording" and "logographic writing," which are theoretically more reasonable. The book primarily uses Chinese examples, with English as the main foreign language, supplemented by examples in Russian and other languages. This book can also serve as a reference for other language researchers.
