"《General Theory of Law》and《The Nature of Law》"

Author: (Japanese) Kishitani Kojiro
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features:
1. This translation series primarily compiles and proofreads classic foreign legal works translated and published by Chinese scholars during the Republican era (including a small number from the late Qing dynasty). During the proofreading process, no changes that would alter the original meaning are made; only appropriate technical edits are applied.
2. If the original books were printed in vertical format, they are uniformly converted to horizontal layout. Phrases like "such as on the left" or "such as on the right" are correspondingly revised to "as follows" or "as above."
3. Traditional characters and variant characters used in the original books are now fully converted to simplified characters and standard characters. In cases where changes would compromise the original meaning, the original form is retained with annotations.
4. Books without punctuation or with non-standard punctuation are now uniformly replaced with modern standardized punctuation marks.
5. Books without paragraph divisions are given appropriate paragraph breaks during proofreading.
6. Translated names used in the original books are updated to new translations if available. For example, "France" replaces "France," "Italy" replaces "Italy," and "Austria" replaces "Austria." However, foreign names remain unchanged because the original books generally do not include foreign language originals for personal names, making it impossible to re-translate them. In such cases, it is better to retain the original form to avoid misinterpretation. For names with foreign language originals or when the proofreaders have access to the original foreign-language texts (e.g., The International Law of Nations), annotations are added to the original translations.
