Features: Research on form and functionality can be traced back to Louis Sullivan of the Chicago School. His theory can be summarized in a sentence: the beauty of an object is defined by the practicality of its materials and structure. This is similar to our exploration of the source of the awe-inspiring long-span dome of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul: it is not some Byzantine decorative art that plays a role, but the application of the finally breaks through the load-bearing walls that Roman architecture could not escape from. It does not aim for expression, but achieves it. In the automotive industry, we cannot mention Giorgio Giugiaro, a strong advocate of pragmatism. He advocated that automotive design should remove meaningless decorative elements, with all lines, curves, and element arrangements centered around the principle of functionality. At the 20th Century Automotive Designer Award ceremony in Las Vegas, it wasn't BMW's Bonger, MG's Stevens, or General Motors' Cherry who smiled—Giugiaro's victory seemed to indicate a certain general understanding in the design world. A design that ignores functionality may not necessarily be ugly, but it is absolutely a failed work.
