Do you need surgery for varicocele?

Patient's question:

I am 35 years old, male with varicocele. I don't want to get treated, do I? Is surgery required for varicocele?

Doctor's answer:

This should be chosen based on the severity of the condition. For milder symptoms of varicocele, external treatment methods can be used. If the varicocele is not obvious, a scrotal support band can be used to hold the scrotum in place, along with local cold compresses. If the varicocele is significant, surgical treatment is necessary regardless of symptom severity to prevent the recurrence of testicular atrophy and impaired sperm production. Patients should develop good daily habits, maintain a regular schedule, avoid smoking and alcohol, and increase physical exercise to enhance their immunity and prevent the condition from recurring.
