Patient's question:
When I went to the bathroom yesterday, it felt a bit uncomfortable, like I wasn't fully emptying my bladder. Also, I think my hemorrhoids are getting worse. Could this be a recurrence of my benign prostatic hyperplasia, causing pressure?Could you please tell me: What are the causes of benign prostatic hyperplasia?
Doctor's answer:
Prostate hyperplasia refers to a group of clinical diagnostic symptoms characterized by difficulty urinating, caused by a reduction in prostate volume, which we call benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Currently, the exact cause of BPH is not very clear. It can be said that it has a close correlation with the androgen levels in the male body. A relatively small portion of patients, approximately 50-60% of the current middle-aged and elderly population, may experience a recurring fluctuation in male androgen levels around the age of 40, leading to the recurrence of prostate hyperplasia. However, why only this small portion of people experience recurrence while the other portion does not is not yet very clear. It may be related to dietary structure and racial intergenerational inheritance.
