1. The selected materials in this book are primarily political essays written by Kang Youwei from 1816, when he received the "learning of governing the state" from Zhu Ciqi, until his death in 1927. Speeches with political propositions, telegrams, letters, poems and prose, as well as prefaces or main chapters of important monographs are also selectively included.
2. The selected materials in this book are mainly single-essay-based, primarily combined with Kang Youwei's intellectual activities, and are organized into three volumes according to different historical stages: Volume 1 for the period before 1877 to September 1898; Volume 2 for October 1898 to October 1911; and Volume 3 for October 1911 to 1927.
3. The selected materials in this book are generally arranged in chronological order of writing or publication, with sources and publication dates clearly noted. Handwritten drafts and copies are also annotated with their storage locations.
4. For the selected materials in this book, if the writing time can be traced or roughly determined, they are arranged in the order of writing time. If the writing time is unclear but the essay was published in a newspaper or journal, it is arranged according to the publication date of the newspaper or journal. If the writing time is unknown and the essay is not found in any newspaper or journal, or if it was published later in a newspaper or journal, making it difficult to confirm the writing time, it is noted as "approximately written in" or temporarily arranged by publication date.
5. The selected materials in this book are generally entered according to the original version when first published, retaining the original titles. Occasionally, if there was no title originally, one is added based on the content.
