What should I do if my child has neurofibromatosis?

Patient's question:

My child is only four years old now, but I didn't expect that when he went to the hospital for a check-up, he had multiple neurofibromas on his body. I don't know what to do. What should I do about multiple neurofibromas in children?

Doctor's answer:

It should be noted to observe and check which diseases are diagnosed. The sequelae are difficult to estimate. They are not disabled. Neurofibromatosis is a neuroectodermal abnormality caused by dominant inheritance. The soft fibromas in children are mainly hemispherical or toe-shaped tumors, with diameters of several millimeters to several centimeters near the trunk and limbs. Soft, skin-colored, pink, or brown, they grow with age and develop slowly. Symptomatic treatment is required, such as surgical excision if skin lesions affect appearance, tumors enlarge and cause pain, or there are suspected malignant changes.
