Features: Geese are primarily herbivorous waterfowl and do not compete with humans for grain. Developing the geese industry aligns with China's national conditions. China has a large population and limited land, making it impossible to allocate significant land for feed production to develop animal husbandry. However, geese are grain-saving poultry, capable of utilizing scattered grasslands such as rice and wheat stubble fields, grassy slopes, pastures, field roadsides, front and back of houses, sparse forest clearings, lakeside riverbanks, and other small patches of grassland for grazing geese. This approach neither competes with humans or livestock for grain nor with cattle or sheep for grass, making the development of the geese industry play a significant role in adjusting China's animal husbandry production structure and the dietary structure of its people. Raising meat goose chicks involves low investment, low costs, a short production cycle, simple housing facilities, and easy-to-master feeding techniques. Therefore, it has been listed as a starting project for poverty alleviation and wealth creation for farmers in impoverished areas. During the period of science and technology poverty alleviation in Shuyang County, Jiangsu Province from 1986 to 1989, the authors helped impoverished households raise meat goose chicks, achieving economic benefits within about 70 days and achieving significant poverty alleviation results. This also sparked the idea of writing a popular science book on meat goose raising techniques. Thus, the authors divided tasks, collected materials, and combined their practical experience to complete the preliminary draft of the book. Due to various reasons, it was not published in a timely manner.
