What are the circumstances under which one can undergo in vitro fertilization?

Patient's question:

Irregular menstruation started in October 2007. I have never been pregnant. My periods come every 40 or 50 days, with the longest being three months and the shortest being 29 days. My follicles are sometimes good and sometimes bad. My fallopian tubes are partially blocked and adhered. I have been taking both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine without interruption. I have also been gaining weight. The doctor said it's mainly because my follicles don't grow properly. I usually ovulate in about 20 days, and sometimes I miss the opportunity.

Doctor's answer:

Preparations needed for the examination include the following: The male partner needs to undergo a routine semen analysis, while the female partner requires basic examinations such as a gynecological examination, dilation and curettage (D&C), fallopian tube patency test, anti-sperm antibody test, liver function test, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), HBeAg, and anti-HBc (HBcAb) test, complete blood count (CBC), coagulation time, and basal endocrine hormone determination (on day 3 of the menstrual cycle). If no abnormalities are found, we will inform you when to start IVF treatment.
