Post, menstrual period is abnormal

Patient's question:

Hello doctor. I had a D&C procedure on January 23rd due to a natural miscarriage. My postoperative recovery has been quite good, and the ultrasound performed upon discharge showed no issues. My period arrived on March 1st, and its amount and color were similar to before, which is normal. On April 3rd and 4th, I had a small amount of brownish discharge. It stopped after that. On April 14th, I had another period, but the amount was very light. The color wasn't bright red—it started blackish at first, then became lighter. I've had a persistent dull ache in my abdomen and have been feeling dizzy lately. Is this normal? I'm very worried. I haven't had any children yet and am afraid it might affect my fertility.

Doctor's answer:

After an induced abortion, the second menstrual cycle will follow. In many cases, due to the hormonal changes caused by the procedure, ovulation may be delayed, and menstruation may also be postponed accordingly. This can result in the absence of menstruation for one or several months after the procedure. If menstruation is delayed for more than 7–10 days, it is advisable to visit a hospital for a thorough examination.
