Bleeding occurred two days after the menstrual period ended.

Patient's question:

I had a tubal ligation surgery in August 2012 due to an ectopic pregnancy. Since then, my periods have been irregular: they last for two days and then start bleeding again, taking three days to fully end. During the time between the end of my period and the start of the next bleeding, I have abstained from sexual activity, although sometimes it has been normal. It has been a cycle of ups and downs ever since.

Doctor's answer:

Irregular vaginal bleeding can be of physiological or pathological origin. Generally, during the ovulation period, some women may experience ovulatory bleeding, also known as mid-cycle bleeding, which refers to light bleeding between two normal menstrual periods. It may be accompanied by varying degrees of mild abdominal pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is needed. However, if the bleeding is heavy or affects fertility, medication can be used.
However, irregular vaginal bleeding may also be a sign of the following conditions: cervical polyps, acute vaginitis, severe cervical erosion, cervical cancer, submucosal uterine fibroids, and others. Additionally, sometimes due to the insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD), blood streaks may be present in the vaginal discharge.
It is recommended that you visit a hospital for examination and consult a doctor to identify the underlying cause, receive timely and appropriate treatment.
