Author: Zhang Jue
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2006-04-01
Features: The Spring and Autumn Annals of Wu and Yue chronicles the historical events of the Wu and Yue states. From the perspective of historical records, it is a historical work; from the perspective of its content and style, it is a work that straddles the line between historians and novelists, and can be considered the origin of later historical novels. This book is based on a Ming-era Hu Hongzhi 14th-year edition (1491) engraved by Kuang Tingrui and Feng Yi, reproduced by Shanghai Hanfen Tower, and has been collated and corrected using other Ming and Qing-era editions, encyclopedias, ancient annotations, as well as variant texts from historical works such as Zuo Zhuan, Guoyu, and Shiji.
From the perspective of historical records, it is a historical work; but from the perspective of its content and style, it differs from the rigorous records of historians. It is indeed a work that straddles the line between historians and novelists, and can be considered the origin of later historical romance novels. Therefore, although it has always been classified under the historical category, it is more vivid and engaging to read than most historical works, making it more beloved by readers.
