Gestational sac at 6 weeks, left adnexal cyst, ectopic pregnancy

Patient's question:

Around 6 weeks pregnant, the ultrasound showed a 5135mm anechoic area in the left adnexa.

Doctor's answer:

To determine whether progesterone levels and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels are excessively high, laboratory tests are necessary. Even if ectopic pregnancy can be ruled out, it is not advisable to immediately prepare for pregnancy. It is best to wait for 3-6 months after stopping emergency contraceptive medication before attempting to conceive, to avoid the accumulation of contraceptive effects in the body that could hinder embryo development.
Waiting for 3-6 months after stopping medication is also acceptable. If the cyst grows rapidly, it is recommended to undergo surgery to remove the cyst first to prevent acute abdominal conditions during pregnancy, which could lead to miscarriage. If the cyst grows slowly, a cesarean section can be considered to remove the cyst along with the delivery.
