Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics

Features: This book is based on the author's ten years of teaching atomic physics, quantum mechanics, and advanced quantum mechanics at the Physics Department of Wuhan University. It is compiled and written according to the lecture notes from teaching quantum mechanics and atomic physics to four consecutive batches of talent training programs in the Physics Department. The book is now intended to be used as a textbook for quantum mechanics and atomic physics courses. The Open Higher Education Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics is an attempt at teaching reform: integrating atomic physics from general physics courses with quantum mechanics from theoretical physics courses into a single course. This approach clearly reduces the total number of class hours. More importantly, the content of atomic physics is presented directly based on quantum mechanics, which is better than the Bohr quantum theory foundation. Similarly, the teaching of quantum mechanics is largely based on classical mechanics, which is better than the Bohr quantum theory foundation. Quantum mechanics is also extensively illustrated with examples from atomic physics (naturally, examples from other fields are also cited), and the narrative is more systematic. As for molecular physics, nuclear physics, and particle physics, separate specialized courses are planned to be offered.
