C. Golferdi was born on March 17, 1833, in Italy, and passed away on April 12, 1905. He spent almost his entire life in Paris, France, during the same era as Ernesto Colli. Colli, born in Modena, Italy, was primarily active as a flute player in Vienna and St. Petersburg, Russia, while Golferdi remained active in Paris. As a renowned master in the world of the flute, Golferdi's current reputation, compared to the brilliance and Colli, an Italian like himself, leaves one to reflect. Although there are fewer records of Golferdi as a flute player, his three light operas and several vocal scores composed by him have been preserved intact. The era in which Golferdi lived is also known in music history as the "Song Era," and therefore, his flute etudes are filled with singing, beautiful melodies.
Golferdi's Double 20 Flute Etudes (Op. 131, Op. 132) are a classic in internationally recognized beginner flute etudes and serve as essential warm-up exercises before Colli's 33 Etudes. Typically, students first use 20 Lovely Etudes and then move on to 20 Small Etudes. The Double 20 Flute Etudes are suitable for students preparing for amateur examination levels 2 and 3.
