This book collects fourteen stories written by the author between 1918 and 1922. It was first published in August 1923 by Beijing Xinchao Publishing House, originally including fifteen stories and listed as part of the publisher's "Literary Series." Starting from the third printing in May 1924, it was published by Beijing Beishu Publishing House and included in the author's "Random Collection Series." In January 1930, during the thirteenth printing, the author removed one story titled "Mount Wu" (later renamed "Heavenly Transformations" and included in "New Stories of Ancient Times"). The author's lifetime saw a total of twenty-two printings.
