Shen Deqian (1673–1769) was a renowned Qing Dynasty poet and compiler of poetry selections. His courtesy name was Queshi, and he was from Changzhou (now Wuxian). He passed the imperial examination during the Qianlong reign and was appointed as a compiler, imperial scholar, and assistant minister of rites. From a young age, he demonstrated exceptional talent and gained fame for his poetry theory and selections. At the age of nearly 70, he passed the imperial examination and was praised by Emperor Qianlong for his contributions to the compilation of the Imperial Collected Poems. He was known as the "venerable scholar of Jiangnan."
Shen Deqian devoted himself to the study of poetry and achieved great mastery, becoming a representative of the neo-classical poetry movement during the Kangxi and Qianlong reigns. His selected works, such as The Selected Poems of the Five Dynasties and The Source of Ancient Poems, were widely circulated and had a significant impact.
