Features: A great era should produce great poetry. Since the founding of the country, under the leadership of the Party Central Committee and Comrade Mao Zedong, and guided by the light of the general line, we have experienced earth-shaking land reforms, achieved victory in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and have begun the grand socialist economic construction. A rare unity among all ethnic groups in the country has emerged. In recent months, due to the rapid development of the agricultural cooperative movement, a high tide of socialist revolution has surged across the nation. A new historical period has opened. The motherland and the people have called upon poetry to produce new poets who can sing of this new era, and new poems imbued with ideological power and artistic vitality that can depict major historical events. Yes. In response to this call, the voices of the poets have been too weak and too hesitant. But there is no need to be disheartened! Listen: The songs of youthful passion and fresh health are singing from all directions, growing louder and more sincere. They are stepping forward, one by one, to join the ranks of the poets. They are youthful singers, full of enthusiasm and vigor. They come from various battlefields: from the countryside, from the battlefield, from the workshops, from the mines, from bustling construction sites, from quiet classrooms, from prosperous cities, and from remote frontiers. Each one, from the depths of their hearts, pours out voices filled with deep emotion, singing the symphony of the new century. They are the new forces on the front line of poetry, bringing vitality and strength to it. Who could not feel happiness and pride, growing up in this historical period when the ideals of humanity are blossoming, living in this new country illuminated by the sunshine of Mao Zedong? The storm of battle guides them from one victory to another, and the brilliance of socialist construction expands their horizons, enabling them to see farther and farther. When they see that countless martyrs have sacrificed their lives and wisdom to pave the way from a dark past to a bright future, and when they realize that they are following in the footsteps of the heroes, how can their hearts not be filled with passion and beat with excitement? Poetry is born in this way. If we still feel uneasy, even to the point of being laughed at, when we call the works of the emerging young poets great, then at least we can fairly call them poems of struggle and poems of construction. And are these not the prelude to the birth of great poems? “The mountain rain is about to come, the wind fills the tower.” Although we cannot yet feel the refreshing rain on our skin, the howling wind already beats against the doors, bringing the news. Review the new forces on the front line of poetry, listen to their surging songs: Their works reflect the major events of recent years, including the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, industrial construction, rural reforms, national defense, and frontier construction. They praise the advanced individuals on various battlefields and the new lives of all ethnic groups. They also sing of the lofty aspirations of the younger generation and their winning confidence in safeguarding peace, all imbued with love and praise for the Party, the leader, and the motherland. Whether in terms of the richness of their content or the breadth of their themes, or the artistic achievements they have attained, they are truly inspiring. P12-14
