This book takes the literature of 20th-century China as its overall subject of examination. When entering the major transformation of the "century of literature" with critical reflection, it goes beyond the common "Western impact—Chinese response" framework, focusing on integrating new knowledge from a Chinese perspective to examine a literary century that sought innovation and change. Looking back with a contemporary lens, it refines tradition, assesses gains and losses, and selects important phenomena and issues from the process of 20th-century literature, transforming "experience" from "experience." It adopts a horizontal and vertical structural model for in-depth and detailed.
From the unique cultural context of China, it delves deeper into the true origins and inherent complexity of "literary modernity." From the perspectives of social trends and academic resources, it offers new considerations of "Left-wing—Yan'an" literature and the construction of a new culture of an era. From the viewpoints of the aestheticization of politics and the politicization of aesthetics, it reorganizes the relationships between literature and politics, urban and rural areas, gender and writing, and media and production in a fresh way.
