Features: In recent years, the number of art exam candidates across the country has been increasing. We are now entering the golden age of art, with so many people studying art and so many various art exhibitions held frequently. I believe this will drive the development of our art industry, and we are indeed in such a favorable era. Recently, many magazines and newspapers have criticized the phenomenon of the surge in art exam candidates. I think this is a sign that the art industry is about to take off rapidly. Among them, there will certainly be outstanding talents who will lead the way and become representatives of our country's golden age of art, recorded in history. Only in this way can we live up to the rich cultural heritage left by our predecessors. Although only a few will be recorded in history, achieving this requires a massive art community. Therefore, the development of art is still not enough, and more knowledgeable individuals need to dedicate themselves to this community. We must not only expand the community but also rapidly diversify the genres and styles of artworks. Currently, oil paintings and traditional Chinese paintings are the main categories in exhibitions, murals still hold a place, lacquer paintings have some room for development, while New Year paintings and comic strips are gradually declining. Folk art, which has a wide foundation, has fallen into the realm of mere scribbling for beginners, so it is rarely seen in exhibitions. Some attribute this to the poor expressiveness of watercolor, but the reason for such a view is rooted in misunderstanding, prejudice, and the pursuit of fame and profit.
Painting materials are an important aspect of art. Throughout history, painters have tirelessly sought various sources and possibilities of materials to achieve unique visual effects. Many of the art masters we know today are representatives of their era in painting and are also pioneers and researchers of painting materials. With the advancement of technology, new painting tools and materials will continue to emerge, bringing more convenience and practicality. While using new materials, we should also inherit and develop reliable traditional tools and materials that have been tested by time. The author believes watercolor should be included in this category. Here, the author will discuss his experiences and insights about watercolor painting from two aspects.
