Features: China is a nation of poetry, and the Tang Dynasty poetry stands as a peak in the history of Chinese poetry. How this peak was formed remains a question that scholars have devoted centuries to exploring, yet it remains largely unresolved. Contemporary scholars, with great enthusiasm, engage in research to reveal the unique spirit of Tang poetry and strive to restore its original historical context. We wrote this manuscript and titled it Studies on Tang Poetry to present some of our insights gained from years of reflection on Tang poetry. In terms of Tang poetry research, the evolution and development remain a central topic. We seek entry points for our analysis from the poets and their works, the relationships between poets, and the connections between works themselves, exploring the developmental process of Tang poetry through the interplay of these elements. Regarding the periodization of Tang poetry, we still adopt the "Four Tangs" theory, despite its certain flaws. It remains difficult to find a theory superior to the "Four Tangs" periodization among the many existing ones, and our attempts to propose a more practical approach have not yielded entirely satisfactory results. From this, we realize that in academic research, we should not deliberately alter the reasonable views of predecessors simply for the sake of innovation, as this may lead to counterproductive outcomes. The writing and publication of this book have always been greatly supported and assisted by the Zhejiang University Continuing Education College and Zhejiang University Press. Special thanks are extended to the editor-in-chief Zhong Zhongnan for his significant efforts and dedication.
