The compositions are innovative, the techniques and artistic intent are exquisite, and they effectively convey the essence of the poetry and prose. Each painting is accompanied by Dai's reflections on its creation, which include insights into painting techniques as well as anecdotal notes, showcasing the artist's sincere heart and valuable creative perspectives. The book also includes close-up details of each painting, providing enthusiasts with material for study and practice.
Dai has always adhered to the principle of faithfully representing the original works, especially when illustrating famous classics. This applies to classical novels as well as to Tang and Song poetry and prose. Given the profound and vast nature of Chinese poetic and lyrical imagery, it is not easy to accurately depict the entirety of a poem or prose piece through limited, concrete visual representations. There is a historical gap between the context in which the poetry and prose were created and the present era, and there is also a significant disparity between the level of ancient poets and my own skills and knowledge, as well as other factors. Although I strive to present a comprehensive and accurate interpretation, it is always challenging to achieve perfection.
The illustrations of poetry and prose presented to the readers here, which I term "visual interpretations," aim only to clarify the original meaning of the poetry and prose, allowing everyone to further appreciate and understand the charm and essence of the works.
