To promote the learning and popularization of the electronic piano, Shanghai has launched an amateur grading activity for electronic pianos, which has been ongoing for over a decade. Under the guidance of the Electronic Piano Professional Committee and with the efforts of numerous teachers, the learning of the electronic piano has become increasingly standardized. The portable electronic piano grading system has also been elevated from the original eight levels as the highest level to the current ten levels as the highest level, and the examination repertoire has become more mature in both content and form. As the grading activity has deepened, especially since 1998 when improvisation was added as an optional component of the electronic piano grading, teachers and students have the lack of in this area and have all hoped for the publication of such.
Chen Yinhu, a graduate of the Composition Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, was one of the first generation of students in China to study the vertical electronic piano under the renowned Japanese performers and professors Minoru Hino and Hideo Saito. As early as 1988, she obtained an international certificate for level 3 of the professional-level vertical electronic piano. Based on her experience teaching at the advanced electronic piano teacher training program in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for over a decade, she has published this book, "Electronic Piano Improvisation."
