Features: The compilation of this book is generally organized by era, divided into eight periods: Pre-Qin, the Han Dynasty, the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, Song and Jin, Yuan and Ming, and the early and middle Qing Dynasty, as well as the late Qing Dynasty. The main part of the book does not adopt the conventional method of arranging scholars and their works in order and reviewing them individually. Instead, it focuses on relatively concentrated fields, methods, and issues of classical literature research in each period, providing thematic descriptions and evaluations. This thematic approach is conducive to showcasing the overall state of classical literature research in each period, revealing its major achievements and contributions, and outlining and organizing the basic threads of the emergence, development, inheritance, and variation of classical literature research throughout history.
Due to the extensive time span of over two thousand years and the broad scope of the research subjects, limited by, we had to carefully select materials and topics, inevitably omitting some details. The descriptions and evaluations of the topics are mostly concise and general, leaving much room for improvement, with inevitable superficiality and limitations. If this book can provide useful references and inspiration for fellow scholars and further serve as a stepping stone for others, we believe the work we have done will not be in vain.
