Features: The college textbook Newly Compiled Basic Japanese was developed to implement the Teaching Syllabus for the Basic Stage of Japanese Programs in Higher Education. It was jointly compiled by a group of teachers from Peking University, Dalian University of Foreign Languages, and Liaoning Normal University, under the commission of the Japanese Group of the Second National College Foreign Language Textbook Review Committee. The book consists of four volumes (with 15 lessons per volume) and is intended for first and second-year Japanese majors (or students in the basic stage). This is the volume. Each volume includes texts (dialogues and articles), vocabulary, notes (functions and notions, grammar), exercises, and necessary supplementary materials on Japanese language knowledge. The selection and organization of the textbook are guided by discourse features. The notes primarily focus on functions and notions while also considering the systematicity of grammar, aiming to integrate the two organically. The book emphasizes both the development of language communicative skills and the transmission of language knowledge, enabling students to build a solid foundation in the language. The revisers have revised and supplemented the original Newly Compiled Basic Japanese Volume 3, addressing shortcomings such as insufficient content, relatively light workload, and cramped layout. The appendix includes a grammar index, enhancing the overall coherence and uniformity of the book. It is primarily intended for use in the first semester of the second year of Japanese major programs.
